Our Infoline is staffed by Workplace Advocates who have specialised training in workplace laws, including employment law, equal opportunity and anti-discrimination law, and work health and safety law.
Our Workplace Advocates take a person-centred approach that is trauma informed and practical. Our goal is to minimize the discomfort you may feel disclosing difficult issues, while providing useful information that puts you in a solid position to understand your options and make decisions.
Due to the gendered nature of this issue, you will have the opportunity to tell us if you’d prefer to speak to a team member of a particular gender at the beginning of your call, or in your call back form.
When you speak to a Workplace Advocate, the first step is for them to ask you for some personal information and some details about your issue. This information is required for us to complete our service obligations and to provide you with useful information.
If there are some details that you would prefer not to speak about then you can let the Workplace Advocate know. If we can’t proceed with the service, we will tell you and we may be able to suggest some other sources of information. However, where possible we will try to proceed to see if we can give you some useful information based on what you are prepared to tell us.
After you have given us your details, the Workplace Advocate will provide you with information to help you decide on next steps (see further below).
We treat your personal information as confidential. We won’t contact your workplace or speak to anyone about your call with us without your knowledge and consent unless we’re required to do so by law.
We may use your information to prepare deidentified and anonymised statistics on the prevalence and nature of workplace sexual harassment and related issues. We use these statistics to report to our funders and contribute to law or policy reform.
For further information about how we may use your information, please see our privacy statement.
If you are finding it difficult to discuss what you have experienced, you might want to ask someone you trust to call on your behalf, or to have them participate in the call as a support person. If you would prefer to talk to a female Advocate you can indicate this in your form, or tell us at the start of the call.
You aren’t required to give us all the details of what happened to you, if you don’t want to. We can still give you information based on what you are comfortable telling us.
As part of the service, we may suggest you engage with our support worker who can help connect you with other support services, such as mental health or counselling services. This social support may help you to address and process difficult emotions or mental health issues which arise following a discussion of your experience.
